Veterinary Surgeon

Surgery Information / Job Description

I am looking for a part time vet to join us at our surgery in Altrincham, 5 miles south of Manchester.  The role has opened up due to the increase in work we have seen during the pandemic.  At the moment we work a 4-day week from 9am to 7pm with consulting, operating and admin time every day. However, this part time role is very flexible and can accommodate someone looking to work around child care, school or who is just trying to find more time for life.
We are open at weekends and work them on a rota, 1 in 3 at the moment. Saturday is 9 to 6 with some cat neuterings to vary the day. Sunday is 10:30 to 4:30 and just consults.  Having worked a weekend, we finish at 2pm on a Thursday for a long weekend break.  We use the local Vets Now Hospital for our out of hours and due to it being a hospital, have the added bonus of being able to send cases we cannot handle over to them during working hours. The weekends are the only part of the role that are sole charge.

- Our team is made up of four RVNs, one student nurse, a VCA and four receptionists
- We use our nurses effectively and they have their own ops and consults lists
- Dentals always get x-rays and extractions are limited to a maximum of 45 minutes
- We have a MyLab Six ultrasound, visiting specialist and for any budding cardiologists I’ll purchase another probe and licence
- We do a range of in-house orthopaedics including TTAs and are ready to expand our surgical kit.

Person Specification

I am looking for a true GP vet, someone that can support our whole team. Providing back up to our less experienced members, confidently deal with challenging cases and clients and help keep a nice calm environment when things get a little busy!

The skills I’m looking for on top of the obvious are:
- Ability to inspire and motivate the team around you
- Strong but balanced sense of responsibility
- Awareness of self and clear sense of direction

Salary wise let me put it this way 3 years qualified could be around 38k and we have scope for someone with a CertAVP. Benefits wise and on top of the standard we offer private health insurance, income protection after a year and 5 weeks holiday. CPD budget is flexible, a certificate is certainly possible

We are part of Vets4Pets and let me assure you it is nothing but a benefit. We have a lovely purpose-built practice that is well and truly run by myself, supported by my team.  We have access to both clinical and non-clinical support from the group and other partners should it be needed.  We get great deals on drugs so we can offer very affordable preventative care, however this is balanced very well with charging appropriately for our time.

I hope that gives you a good overview of our practice.  If you would like to know anymore please send me an email and we can arrange a chat.
